Being a vegetarian has taught me to be more adventures and to explore different flavours and textures. I have been making this for years which has impressed many that set around my table. Normally I add them to a spicy tomato and tamarind gravy which is absolutely fantastic. These soya fish Frikkadels are just perfect on their own served with some tangy mayonnaise. They also make a picture perfect starter, stacked on some sushi rice, slices of onion and tomato topped with a dollop of mayonnaise. How Friggie awesome is that!
Preparation time: 15-20 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes maximum
Yields: 16
1 packet soya fish (vegetarian) thawed
⅓ cup spring onions finely chopped
¼ cup fresh coriander leaves finely chopped (no stems)
3-4 green chillies finely chopped
1 tbsp (15ml) coriander powder
½ tbsp (7.5ml) cumin powder
½ tsp (2.5ml) coarsely stamped black peppercorns
½ cup (125ml) fresh breadcrumbs made from white bread
1 tsp salt – adjust accordingly
Oil for shallow frying
Let’s cook 🙂
- Finely slice soya fish, add to a bowl and then mash it up with your finger tips
- Add in all the other ingredients accept oil – combine well by mixing with your hands. If you feel mixture is too dry – add 1-2 tsps of water
- Form small balls – roll between palms and then slightly flatten to form 2.5 cm disks. You can lightly oil your palms to avoid sticking)
- Heat oil in a thick based pan. Oil should be medium hot. Fry Frikkadels for a 1 minute on each side.
#Wink_Wink;-) you can add to tomato chutneys, or serve as Soya fish burgers or just as starters with a good mayonnaise
